Jerry L. Kirks, Ph.D.


Dr. Kirks is an educator, developer, broker and analyst of trends in real estate brokerage. He has over 53 years of combined real estate experience. He is the former Vice President for Licensing, Compliance and Education, Transwestern in Bethesda, Maryland.
He has been on the Real Estate Faculty of George Mason University and The American University where he was the founding Director of The Real Estate Center. He has lectured and held seminars on the problems of agency, broker responsibility and representation for the Institute of Real Estate Management, Northern Virginia and DC Association of Realtors, and the Single Agency Realty Association. He has also served as expert witness in research and presentation of agency and representation issues.

He is President of Kirks’ Institute for Advanced Real Estate Studies which offers university level professional and continuing education programs to real estate, legal and financial services firms. His doctoral research was in trends and analysis of real estate brokers education at The University of Michigan.

Jeffrey Kirks


Mr. Kirks has an extensive and varied business career. Mr.Kirks received a Bachelors degree in Philosophy with a specialization in Philosophy of the Mind and extensive course work in psychology from Temple University in 1995; shortly after he began his business career. For the past 15 years Mr. Kirks has been involved in sales, marketing, business development, and public relations. Through this experience he has acquired extensive knowledge in the area of business management and strategic planning.

Mr. Kirks is currently working with Kirks Institute where he teaches, researches, designs, and writes courses. He has been with Kirks institute on a part time basis since 1998 and became full time in 2005. While at Kirks Institute he has written and taught courses on management, ethics, agency, supervision, green building, and financing courses for Virginia continuing education, Maryland pre-licensing and Continuing education, and the District of Colombia.

Mr. Kirks has been involved with the green building movement since becoming full time at Kirks Institute and is the point person for all correspondence with the United States Green Building Counsel (USGBC) Mr. Kirks serves on many of the committees for the organization. Under the guidance and direction of Mr. Kirks Kirks Institute is now an approved education provider for the United States Green Building Counsel’s credential maintenance program. Kirks Institute is a member of the USGBC. Mr. Kirks is a certified instructor for the program.

Mr. Kirks is a licensed real estate salesperson in Maryland.
